About the Interfraternity Forum

The Interfraternity Forum was founded to address two core issues:

1. The lack of post-COVID third spaces for university students, resulting in the highest levels of self-reported loneliness in national history
2. Record poor job prospects for students due to lagging educational standards compared to industrial expectations

The University of Manchester has had a solution to this issue since 2001: the Sigma Upsilon Phi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. Almost 1,000 graduates from the chapter will attest to the life-long local and international community they have benefitted from in addition to the exposure to industry, network and professional workshops to bolster their career.

So, we're going to share our experience of Co-Ed Professional Fraternities with 1,000s students across the UK and Europe.

What we do

We work with three groups of people to bring structured Brotherhood and Professional Development to students across the continent:

• Co-Ed Professional Fraternities. Co-Ed Professional Fraternities are held internally to a high standard that we are able to handle UK/European Go-To-Market for if we believe we can help them help students as per our vision.
• Student founders. If you want to found a community, we want to hear from you. We provide ample resources and support to make your chapter a success in conjunction with the fraternity HQ itself as well as connection to the growing group of pre-selected student collegiate members across the continent.
• Students. So-called "collegiate" members get access to our growing network and catalogue of events and resources — to help you win in whatever your choice of arena

Why "third spaces"

A recurring theme in our work is Ray Oldenburg's idea of the third place — the venues, outside home and work, where community forms. Post-COVID undergraduates have fewer of these than any recent generation, and professional fraternities are one of the few institutions still reliably manufacturing them. Everything on this site is downstream of that belief.

Who runs it

The Forum is run by a small volunteer team of current students and alumni across several UK universities and industries. We are deliberately independent from any single fraternity so the output and directory can stay honest to the overarching mission.
